According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, more than 400K job openings are estimated to be available every year in protective service occupations. These jobs align within five key safety sectors: fire service, law enforcement, corrections, emergency medical services (EMS), and wildland fire service.
The majority of public safety jobs and careers require either a high school diploma and specialized training or simply a high school diploma (or GED). The availability of careers in public safety combined with the accessibility of the necessary academic requirements allow many high school students to pursue these jobs immediately after graduation.
Fire districts, police departments, EMS services, and others in Missouri’s public safety sector want to simplify the job search and application process for teens and young adults interested in pursuing these heroic careers. Emergency personnel in various St. Louis municipalities collaborated to create the Public Safety Career Hub in response to the growing demand for more first responders and public safety workers.
