Job Description

The Juvenile Detention Officer (DJO) is responsible for supervising juveniles referred to the Juvenile Office, conducting interviews with juveniles and their families, and developing comprehensive assessments and treatment plans. DJOs provide home and community-based supervision, link families with appropriate resources, and deliver crisis management and supportive services while utilizing evidence-based interventions to enhance accountability and community safety. This community-based role requires frequent home visits, transport of juveniles and families, and participation in Juvenile Office programs, interdisciplinary meetings, and public speaking engagements. The DJO must also testify in court, collaborate with schools and police, and complete 24 hours of approved job-related training annually.

Education Requirements

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or a related social/behavioral science (a Master’s degree is preferred). Plus at least one year of professional experience working with youth and families or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Required Certifications

Must possess a valid driver’s license.
