Role Description

The battalion chief is the frontline command supervisor for an entire shift.  They ensure operational continuity and efficiency regarding emergency responses.  They command and direct multiple emergency companies and provide order and control of emergency operations on the fire scenes.  They are responsible for training, providing leadership, and managing personnel.  They serve as the communicator between higher management and frontline personnel. They must have good communication skills and problem-solving techniques and be knowledgeable on modern fire trends.

Education Requirements

  • St. Louis County Fire Academy (Working in St. Louis County )

  • Supervisory experience at rank of captain or higher

  • Valid Driver's License and satisfactory motor vehicle record

  • Associates Degree 

  • Incident Command System Training - 100, 200. 300

  • National Incident Management System Training - 700, 800
